Millwall celebrated the end of another successful season with a family fun day on Mudchute Farm on Saturday.

The annual Rugby Festival that includes the England v Rest of the World game was another huge success, attended by in excess of 300 people, and for the first time included matches featuring Millwall’s under 14s and under 16 teams.

The main event, played in glorious sunshine, saw the English slump to their fourth consecutive defeat at the hands of the Rest of the World, losing 19-5 in an intense battle.

England struck first on the back of a rolling maul up field however that was as close as they came to the foreigners, who scored in the first half through Nick James, Brent McMillan, while prop Andrew Bates sealed the victory late in the second half with a barge over try ten minutes from full time.

Following their tradition of allowing only youngsters to kick at goal, under 14’s player Jayson Thompson kicked two conversions for the Rest of the World to pad the score line.

Earlier in the day, Thompson and his under 14 teammates made took the pitch for the first time this season against Eton Manor. Although the visitors proved too strong for the debutants, winning 45-5, the young Millwall team managing to grab a try in the final minutes.

Next up, Millwall’s Ladies section staged an exhibition match with the matching being draw 14-all, showing some spectacular skills and tackling as the team embraced new recruits, brought to the club through their successful TRY rugby sessions this season.

Along with face painting, music and a bouncy castle, players and spectators were treated to a BBQ spread that kept the masses well fed all day and generated some much needed revenue for the Isle of Dogs club.

Millwall will officially close their season with a tour to Malta this weekend and their end of season awards night dinner at the House of Commons, Westminster next Saturday.
