Your News New faces as Doncaster announce captains

Doncaster Director of Rugby Lynn Howells has made the decision on the Captains for the Knights squad this season, and it is all change with his new look squad.

Club Captain.

As one of the players at Castle Park to have made over 100 appearances for the Castle Park side Steve Boden was a natural choice of club Captain. Knowing the club and its values inside out and having a talent for creating a team ethic Steve will be the representative for the squad off the pitch. The no nonsense Hooker is also a popular figure with the fans and is known as one of the most grounded and accessible players in the squad.

Team Captain.

On the pitch representation for the Knights this season will be a duty headed up by Scottish Hooker Steven Lawrie. Some will see this as a natural choice, noting Lawrie’s ability to communicate between the Referee and players and his motivational aspect on the pitch. Lawrie Joined the Knights from Edinburgh at the beginning of the 2009/10 RFU Championship season featuring in 28 games for Doncaster during his time here.

Team Vice Captain.

Another choice surely to be popular with fans in the Vice Captaincy awarded to Flanker Neil Cochrane. Neil Joined Doncaster Knights from Rotherham Titans and proved an instant fan favourite with his hard running and high work rate style reminiscent of Simon Grainger. Having become a regular in the team since his move to the club at the start of the 08/09 season Cochrane put in some big performances for the Knights last season.

On the selection of two hookers in two Captain’s positions Lynn Howells gave this comment. “ An armband doesn’t guarantee a first team place in Rugby, Boden and Lawrie will both need to work hard and focus on being the first choice. Steve Boden is the natural choice for club Captain because the players find him approachable and he understand how the fans feel about the club. Steven Lawrie has captained the team on several occasions and 99% of the time he makes the right decisions and communicates with officials well”.

Howells continued “ Neil Cochrane will take the Captain’s position if Boden is selected over Lawrie, the system is simple”.

These Captains will be available for comment the “Meet the Players” event scheduled for Friday 13th August beginning at 7pm. The club would ask fans to take time out of their evening to welcome the new Captains after the open training session on the first team pitch.
