England Under 20s warmed up for next month's IRB Junior World Championship (JWC) with a comfortable 29-11 win over Loughborough Students in the abbreviated Dan James Memorial Match.

Christian Wade (London Wasps), Marcus Watson (London Irish), Joe Marler (Harlequins) and Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby) all scored tries and Freddie Burns (Gloucester Rugby) kicked three conversions and a penalty before floodlight failure ended the game after 63 minutes.

The match celebrated the life of England Students hooker Dan James, who died in September 2008, 18 months after he was paralysed in a training ground accident. James played in two BUSA Championship-winning Loughborough teams, scoring two tries in the 2006 final against Bath.

For England the contest was the final warm-up act before flying out to Argentina where they face the host nation, Ireland and France in the pool stages in Rosario.

Last year they stumbled to a 23-20 defeat against the students before finishing second behind New Zealand at the JWC in Tokyo.

Last night, there was no chance of a slip-up as they seized control with the sharpness of their build-up play and finishing. Wade - on duty with England Sevens at Twickenham this weekend - powered through a tackle in the left-hand corner early on and fellow wing Watson added the second from 20 metres out before Harlequins prop Marler drove over from close range.

Burns converted all three and added a penalty for a 24-6 half-time lead with Matt Keville replying with two penalties for the students.

The lead would have been healthier if Watson and skipper Jacob Rowan hadn't both lost the ball over the line either side of the interval and Loughborough responded with a good spell of pressure before lock Will Warden forced his way over for their only try.

England dominated the rest of the third quarter with May touching down to extend the lead before referee Greg Garner called a halt when the lights faded 17 minutes from time.
