Blaydon's best ever season in League One disappointingly ended in defeat at Cinderford but they had more then enough opportunities in the closing stages to have secured the win they deserved.

Playing with the driving wind and rain behind them they took the game by storm and opened the scoring in the 12th minute from a short scrum with a typical No8 effort from Jason Smithson. Andrew Baggett added the conversion and Blaydon continued to press but the home side hit back on quarter time when their fly-half Tim Stevenson stepped through to score under the posts, Dan Trigg converting.

More Blaydon pressure then brought them a second try finished off by second rower Chris Wearmouth after phase upon phase of good possession, and Baggett's conversion made it 7-14 at the break.

That lead was extended early in the second period by centre James Fitzpatrick, who in the process became leading club try scorer for the season, but Cinderford now had their turn of the conditions and gradually came back into it.

From a driving maul Ed King forced his way over to pull it at back to 14-19 and then on 60 minutes right wing Robert Winchle was on hand to complete a smart move.

Trigg improved both scores to put Cinderford in front for the first time and then added a penalty but in the closing minutes Blaydon scorned chance after chance to clinch victory.
