Your News Gloucester All Blues 10 - Minchinhampton 15

Earlier in the season Minch had come unstuck against All Blues but on Saturday they were keen for history not to repeat itself. Once again the forwards were leading the charge, the Minch pack were piling huge pressure on the All Blues pack driving them back at a rate of knots. Young ramlet Ollie Payne was enjoying a commanding game at fly half and was unleashing Stu Campbell and Tony Richmond at will to batter their way through the All Blues midfield. Despite Minch having all the possession it was All Blues who struck first with a well taken move down the left flank to score in the corner. Minch had to respond but All Blues just managed to keep them out. As the tempo rose, the attacks came through thick and fast, and eventually it was Ed Wright who went round the outside to score in the corner to level the scores 5-5.

Minch were rewarded with a penalty early in the second half, calmly slotted by Tom Horrell, but shortly after suffered a big setback when hooker Matt Baldwin was taken off with an ankle injury that required an ambulance. When play was eventually resumed, Minch were in a vengeful mood and powered their way up the pitch with Chris Brain having a fine game at full back. It was, however, Stu Campbell who made a break through the middle before popping up to Paul Prosser to dive over for the try, and with the conversion Minch were in a 15-5 lead. All Blues responded well but despite being camped deep in the Minch 22 for 10 minutes, wave after wave of attacks were repressed. Eventually they found a chink in the Minch armour with a clever chip over and they pounced on the ball to close the lead. It was however too late and Minch finished deserved 15-10 victors. Minch will need to be on top form at the weekend where the 1st XV entertain Cirencester 2nds in the Combination Plate Semi Final, whilst Minch 2nd XV and 3rd XV both entertain visiting Rochford 100 on tour from Essex.
