Yarnbury Under 15s

Sunday 20th April 2008

Yarnbury 19 West Leeds 15

Yarnbury hosted a West Leeds side depleted in numbers by late withdrawals. The opening 25 mins saw the game played between the two 22m lines, both sides making basic handling errors. It was the visitors who took the lead with two well taken trys, one conversion, despite the tackling of full back Joe Pinnick and Judd Cummins.

Playing into the wind in heavy ground conditions Yarnbury insisted on kicking away possession, but when the ball went through hands, with Matty Robinson breaking away, supported by Joe Pinnick, Lloyd Cunningham finished off a length of the pitch move under the posts for Daniel Pound to convert.

West Leeds were strong in the forwards and almost scored on the stroke of halftime but for some text book tackling from Pound.

Yarnbury started the second half much stronger with the wind at their backs, but were unable to turn continued pressure into points until a shuffle in positions in the backs saw Pinnick move to standoff, Pound to scrumhalf and Teasdale to full back. Pinnicks strong running and support from the forwards saw Daniel Burnside pinch another typical try, picking and dropping over the line to level the scores.

Yarnbury then made the extra player count, with West Leeds tiring after endless defensive work, Teasdale entered the back line in attack to jink his way towards the line, only to be tackled, but with the forwards in support, Bill Child picked and flopped over the line in true Burnside style. Pound made the difficult conversion look easy with a good clean strike of the ball.

Once again Yarnbury showed great spirit in coming from behind for the second week in a row, the difference this week was the successful conversions.

Joe Pinnick was awarded Yarnbury Player of the Match.
