Your News South Woodham Ferrers 0 - Basildon 52

You would have to trawl the archives to find the last time Woodham

suffered such a heavy defeat. Having to play in a local park due to

the waterlogged Basildon pitches Woodham found themselves under

pressure from the start. Woodham's young and lightweight team struggled

to contain one of the largest packs they had faced this season. The loss

of prop Micheal Cheyne after 5 mins added to the constant pressure.

Woodham defended bravely keeping the home team at bay for the first

quarter, but with so much possession and territory a score was inevitable.

On a heavy pitch Basildon's forwards started to dominate making easy

ground and went in for two more tries before half time. 0-19.

Woodham started the second half confident they could turn the score

around, but after some initial pressure Basildon regained the upperhand.

Basildon's good ball retention and strong pick and drives reaped its reward

as they crashed over for a couple of tries. Woodham's poor defensive

line allowed a rampant home team to continue on a scoring feast.

Woodham's heads started to drop and Basildon began to score at will and

eventually broke the half century with the last play of the game.

Final score. SWF 0 - 52 Basildon.

Woodham travel to Wymondham next week to a team which are always

strong at home. Hopefully a stronger resolve on a firm ground can

banish this woeful performance.
