Your News Yatton 5 - Cullumpton 34

Based upon the recent run of form and relative league positions, its possible that the eventual outcome of this game was inevitable.

Basement team Yattons cause was not helped by absences and the ability to field recognised first team players in key positions.

However, it was the home side, facing a low bright sun and playing up the slope, which applied pressure and had the visitors pinned within their 22 for the first five minutes.

But once Cullomptons back division were given clean ball and a clear path their try in the corner was a foretaste of things to come. Five minutes later Yatton gave away a converted penalty in front of the posts.

When play recommenced, after a lengthy leg injury delay, the visitors backs were quickly in business with two more converted tries before half time to Yattons one penalty conversion.

Ten minutes into the second half Cullomptons stand-off slipped his would-be tacklers to add his try and conversion to his teams first ever visit to Yatton.

However, it was now the fit looking visitors who were finding it tough going to run up the slight gradient on a sticky pitch.

As play continued into the last quarter, Yattons attacks nearly bore fruit only to miss out on a possible try by spilt ball as they were gaining the edge in the scrums.

However, with uncontested scrums during the final five minutes and sloppy defensive cover on the wing, Cullompton edged their tally over the 30 mark with another unconverted try.
