Your News Chosen Hill 3XV 22 - Minchinhampton Rams 5

This was a very competitive game played at Cirencester (due to waterlogged pitch at Painswick) with Minch rather confusingly playing in red and Chosen Hill, who are the Merit Table V leaders, in green. Minch fielded a strong team and competed very well but were undone by Chosenís greater cohesion and support play. Chosen Hill took the lead, one of their outsize second-rows ploughing over, but Minch soon struck back with a move finished by Steve Dechan. Unfortunately a rather harsh sin-bin for the aforesaid full-back, due to twice straying off-side, handed the initiative back to Chosen Hill, who soon profited with a converted try, to go 12-5 ahead at half-time.

An all-action second-half saw Chosen up their game and pressurize the Minch line, eventually going over from a ruck, following a poorly defended set-piece. Some thumping tackling from excellent debutant Chris Maris and old warhorses Evans and Maller ensured Chosen were pushed all the way, as Brain, Capel and Whittemore kept the backs in check. Frustratingly though, except for a late flurry Minch could not get really their own back line going and had to contend with two changes at scrum-half. Chosen had the last word as an unkind bounce gifted them a soft try, but on balance they merited their win.
