SKIPPER Mark Sample hailed an heroic show from his Weymouth players as they returned home victorious following a narrow victory at Frome Seconds.

One man who deserves extra praise is Adam Hoxey after he scored the only try of the game and made a fantastic last-ditch tackle to deny the hosts drawing level.

Sample, whose side climbed to third in Dorset & Wilts One South as a result of their third straight win, said: “It was a very close game but an enjoyable one to play in. It may have only been 5-0 but both sides put on a good spectacle.

“I had to make nine changes from the previous week so all the guys that played on Saturday are heroes in my eyes as we put on a fine performance.

“We started the game really well got our only try quite quickly. There were moments in the game when we were close to adding to our score but that final pass wasn’t clinical enough to round the move off.

“Then, just before half-time, Adam Hoxey put in not only a try-saving tackle but a game-saving tackle.

“Frome threw everything at us in the last 10 or 15 minutes but we stood firm and it was a fantastic defensive display.”

Next up for the Seasiders is an eagerly anticipated derby clash with league leaders Bridport at Monmouth Avenue.

Sample added: “It’s a local derby and it will be an extremely tough game. We’ll have to be at our best but we are definitely showing some good form.”
