Your News Kesteven 2XV 36 - Worksop 2XV 10

Kesteven 2nds got back to winning form on Saturday with an exhilarating first half performance. The pack laid the foundation and the backs duly deliverred some fine tries. Faolan Lidstone at scrum half was the spark behind most of the moves while Hallam O'Brien showed lightning speed on the break.

K's did not take long to get on the score sheet. A tapped penalty by Lidstone say the ball spin out to the right and Andy Brown, playing in the unaccustomed position of centre stole over in th corner. Andy Price missed the conversion but was successful minutes later when he converted the second try scored by Vilmantas Zuicis, his second in two weeks. This was a fine try created when he cut inside off his wing to score under the posts.

The third try came from O'Brien who used his devastating pace and a great angle of runing to take a short pass from Brown and speed in under the bar. Price converted.

O'Brien added his second try moments later when he beat the defence to score in the corner.

The Worksop pack were a strong unit and were starting to get into the game. They got into the Kesteven 22 and from a line out set up a maul which ended up over the Kesteven line for a try.

Just before the break Kesteven added their fifth try. Woolerton was up in support of a fine break by Lidstone to take the ball. His strength in breaking the tackle took him clear of the defence and he finished in style to take the half time score to 31 - 5.

The weather worsened at the start of the second half and the play got bogged down a bit. The Worksop forwards made a good contest of it and defences got on top.

K's had few scoring chances but the afternoon was lit up by a supeb individual try from Lidstone. He picked up a loose ball near halfway and side-stepping this way and that he beat several defenders to finish off with a flourish near the posts. Brister's conversion attempt hit the post. Worksop had the last word when pressure at the base of a Kesteven scrum led to a loose ball picked up by their flanker who scored.

This was an exciting performance by the young Kesteven backs who were provided with a good supply of ball by their experienced forwards. Matt Perry made a welocme appearance in the front row and it was good also to see Simon Somerville back in the fray. Stand in skipper Andy Pearsey led by example and Mark Sayle had a productive afternoon at the line out. In the backs Faolan Lidstone had a great game, ably supported by Jason Lamb at fly-half while Hallam O'Brien ran well. Andy Brown showed what a great all round player he is by filling in at centre and not looking out of place while Vilmantas Zuicis looks to be settling in well. Special word too for Dean Ward who helped out Worksop by appearing as a sub for them.
