Your News Wharfedale 33 - Blaydon 10

Wharfedale comfortably completed the double over a lack-lustre Blaydon side that struggled throughout at half-back, and had the disadvantage of being on the receiving end of three yellow cards.

It was Blaydon who made the better start however and who were rewarded with an early try when flanker Andrew Wright was driven over from a rolling maul. Sadly the advantage was just as quickly lost when two of their players were sin-binned and they had no answer to 2 unconverted tries from the home side.

By the interval Blaydon were almost back on terms when full-back Simon Barber chipped ahead and Wright sent in Martin Shaw from 40 metres to make it 14-10 at the break. They then had their best spell of the game in the opening 15 minutes of the second period with some good catch and driving but ultimately were let down by poor handling.

Wharfedale coped easily with the pressure and then when Blaydon skipper Dave Guthrie became a third yellow card victim, upped their game to run in 3 more tries and stamp their authority on what overall had been a poor performance by two middle of the table sides with little to play for.
