Towcestrians travelled to Lutterworth without several first team regulars and secured a deserved win with a side brimming with younger players, including 1st XV debuts for Johnnie Burns and Martyn Harvey.

Early nerves were settled with a successful Marc Yeates penalty and as confidence built, Tows moved the ball wide for winger Matt Huck to score wide out. Continued pressure from Tows made Lutts over commit to defence and with characteristic opportunism Gag Evans slipped through a gap to dot down a neat try for Yeates to convert. Lutts continued to struggle to find their form when Tows again pounced as James Padfield raced over to put Tows 20Pts ahead. To their credit Lutts revived themselves from the onslaught to come back with a try and a penalty, but it was Yeates who slotted another penalty to put Tows ahead 8Pts to 23Pts at half time.

The second half opened with Yeates securing his 3rd accurate kick of the game with another penalty, before Lutts had their best period of the match. Tows were under a prolonged siege on their own line and Lutts looked sure to score, but Tows prop James Hodges had other ideas as he secured the ball to burst out of defence and start an incisive move. He slipped the ball to young scrum half Chris George, who defied the cover defence with a pass to James Padfield who ran the length of the field to score under the posts. Gag Evans converted. With young Tows props Hodges and Causebrook coping well with the experienced home front row, Lutterworth’s counter attacks were blunted and Yeates too made an excellent cover tackle to force the Lutts winger into the corner flag in a race to the Tows line. Lutts forwards did regain some pride by securing a late converted try, but Tows, always looking in control, ran the game down to secure a deserved victory.

Next week Tows are home in their final League game of the season against top of the table Leighton Buzzard RFC Kick Off: 3.00pm.

Towcestrians RFC 2nd XV 5Pts vs Lutterworth RFC 2nd XV 12Pts

A try from Colts manager Paul Smith was the only Tows response in a close fought game.

Long Buckby RFC 2nd XV 14Pts vs Towcestrians RFC 3rd XV 34Pts

A Crispin Slee brace of tries, and tries from Andy Eaton, Rich Stewart, Simon Tiernan plus a penalty try and 2 conversions from Darren Harrison proved too much for the Long Buckby 2nd XV against the ever buoyant Tows 3rd XV..
