Your News Sidmouth 21 - Yatton 21

Yatton didnt manage their double over fellow basement club Sidmouth. The travellers where unable to field a hand full of players from the previous Saturdays winning side due to sickness and commitments and the 1st teamers had been involved in a tough cup match against Weston-S-Mare mid-week.

Two easy penalty conversions went astray during the first 20 minutes as the home side played with advantage of the slope and forged ahead through first a penalty conversion followed by a missed tackle try.

Sam Osborne put Yatton on the board with a penalty 10 minutes later and interplay skills from the forwards saw Yatton surge from halfway until Prop James Grimes took a crash ball over for his emphatic try, minutes before the break. Sidmouth regained the lead with a penalty in the dying seconds to turn around at 11-8.

Osborne levelled the scores within minutes of the second half but stiff resistance held the visitors at bay and a breakout saw additional penalties traded around the 60 minute mark.

With 15 minutes of normal time to go quick ball from the base of a scrum clicked the back division into gear, Full-back Tony Hill joined in at pace taking a high pass and Mike Harris finished easily. Osbornes kick giving Yatton 7 clear points with time to spare.

But the home side had other thoughts and doubled their endeavour. With just over 10 minutes to go Yattons Flanker was yellow carded and Sidmouths penalty conversion rattled fiercely back into play off of an upright. The ball was knocked on by a surprised defender and a prolonged series of tough close quarter onslaughts took place at Yattons try line. Penalties in defence were perhaps inevitable and a penalty try was awarded.

Sidmouths No8 was carded with seconds to go as Yattons jumpers were again impeded but the penalty chance was to far out and just flew wide.

This Saturday is the 2nd local biggy of this Season. Desperate Yatton 1st XV will see if they can avenge their mid October away defeat against comfortably placed Clevedon. Vice Presidents lunch followed by Kick Off at 2-30pm. The 2nds travel to St Bernadettes and the 3rds go to Oldfield.
