Brixham 0 - Yatton 0

Brixhams couple of overseas players didnt help much against the gritty determination of Yattons home grown village team.

Play was delayed for well over 10 minutes after the first few seconds as a Brixham prop twisted a knee and was taken to hospital.

Facing a strong wind, up the slope, and extremely muddy conditions visitors Yatton were determined to show the opposition that they had learned a few things since their home defeat against Brixham as their first game of the season after having gained promotion the previous season.

As the game swung from end to end in atrocious conditions Yatton despite the disadvantages seemed to have the edge. Tony Hills penalty conversion attempts at 25 minutes and in first half injury time were either pushed low by the unpredictable wind or forced wide.

The second half saw each side having to play largely ten man rugby and battling it out with local supporters having paid a 5 entrance fee voicing frustration. The local referee had his work cut out to identify players in the mud but in the main the game was played in good spirit.

Yattons best opportunity came when they were in the home sides 22, for 10 minutes in the final quarter, but Dave Keatings inevitable drop goal attempt succumbed to the slurry and didnt disturb the seagulls who were playing in the swirling wind above the pitch.

The game finished again in another forwards battle within Brixhams 22 when both sets of packs were relieved to see Yattons captain Chris Harris deliberately punt the ball into touch after the last play, being satisfied with an away 0-0 result against such stiff opposition.

Thursday, Saturday and Sunday of this week Yatton continue to celebrate their 40th Anniversary, please contact the Rugby Club 01934 832085 or 01934 838780 or view the YattonRugby Website
