Your News Darlington 51 - Blaydon 12

Blaydon payed the penalty for putting out a very weak side which included only four regular 1st Team players and in total, at the beginning of the game, their backs had only two full games between them - others being from the 2nd Team or the U19 side.

For these U19 players it was a learning curve and one or two in particular came out of the game with some credit and no doubt they will reflect on the gap between U19 rugby and National League 2.

Whilst Blaydon did have quite a bit of possession, they failed to use it and with the loss early on of Richard Windle and then Matt Dehaty, any pattern to their play was seriously disrupted and the home side scored five tries before the interval.

Blaydon played in the second half with Matt Hall, normally a hooker, in the centre and Nick Williams, the club physio who is shortly to leave us, getting his second outing of the season at scrum half. It was these two players who scored Blaydon's tries the second of which was converted by Fred Burdon to give the Blaydon scoreline some semblance of respectability before the home side finished off with two further tries and a penalty to give them an emphatic victory.
