Your News Sevenoaks U18 put up a great fight in Kent 7s

Sevenoaks Under 18’s excelled at the Kent Sevens winning their way through to the final. The pool stage opened with a breeze past Medway by 29 points followed by a close 19-17 win over Cranbrook, one of the favoured sides. Turvey opened the scoring for Oaks but Cranbrook came back with two tries. Kedge pulled things level and then Field rounded off a superb try. The conversion was crucial as Cranbrook pulled one back at the close but missed the kick. The final pool game was drawn 12-12 against Beccehamians but Field, whose work-rate was fantastic all day, had to make a try-saving tackle on the final whistle. Oaks went through as unbeaten group winners meeting Maidstone in the semi-final who scored two unanswered tries in the first half. Kedge led the comeback with another long range effort and Oaks began to take control. Field scored after a patient build up and then Eakins ran in after Facer’s lineout steal. In the final Tom Crane gave Oaks an early lead but the Folkestone pacemen ran in three unanswered tries before halftime. Coming from behind again Oaks drew a round of applause from the crown when Field’s perfect cross-pitch kick was caught on the full by Eakins running at full pace for a score. Then Kedge broke away from halfway to leave Oaks trailing just 19-24. Despite a magnificent effort from the whole squad Oaks just failed to take the Cup when Folkestone found no cover down the blindside and sealed the match. Kedge was Oak’s top scorer with 5 tries and Field was player of the tournament with 3 tries and 10 conversions.
