Your News South Woodham Ferrers 16 - West Norfolk 22

Woodham's hopes of promotion finished after their

long trip to Kings Lynn. Woodham had to reshuffle

the pack with the loss of second row Paul Morgan and

this was further compounded when influential

open side flanker Lee Guess limped off after 5 minutes

with an ankle injury. West Norfolk had the better of

the early exchanges but it was Woodham who opened

the scoring with Adam Brown slotting two long range

penalties. 6-0. Things got even better when number 8

David Bull took a quick tap penalty on the half way line

and released young Neil Gittos playing this week at

second row,his well weighted pass put seventeen year

old debut winger Ben Mustoe away, his pass out of the

tackle to Joe Dukelow allowed the supporting scrum half

to sprint away and score under the posts.

Brown converted. 13-0.

Cheered on by a large vocal crowd on the balcony West

responded. A good drive from a line out gave the hosts a

score in the corner. The extra points were well taken from

the touch line. 13-7. Brown extended the visitors lead with

a simple penalty in front of the post just before half time.

16-7. The second half started badly for Woodham and were

unable to control any set ball. From yet another turn over

ball wheeled at a scrum, West Norfolk attacked wide. The ball

squirting out the side of the ensuing ruck, allowed the

home teams winger to score unopposed. The conversion from

the touch line was again excellently taken. 16-14. Woodham,

being constantly penalised at the break down were unable to

build any phases and any thus quality ball to their back line dried up.

West took the lead from yet another penalty.16-17. As the clock

started to run down Woodham became desperate and chances

were missed, where in previous weeks they were executed with ease.

With only a minute left Woodham were awarded a penalty just inside

West's half. Brown's long range effort into the wind fell agonisingly

short. West Norfolks clearance kick up field was collected and returned

but an interception in midfield allowed West to score with the final play

of the game.
