With this reverse the Seasiders can kiss goodbye to any faint hopes they held of promotion into the southern counties league for next season.

Weymouth had enough possession particularly in the first half to have had the game won at the interval, but they failed to break down a committed visiting defence and had to settle for a pair of penalties from full back Dave Allan.

Frome rarely ventured inside home territory, but when they did get a sniff of the Seasiders’ line in the 38th minute they converted their chance with fly half Charlie Corlett touching down for scrum half Chris Bulger to add the extras that saw the Somerset side take a narrow seven points to six score into the second half.

After the break the game was almost a carbon copy of the first half with this time Weymouth finding difficulty in breaking out of defence and with tempers rising it came as little surprise when both packs traded punches and the referee Mr Tim Wynn had option other than to issue a warning to both skippers that he would non of it and the next affray would result in red cards being displayed.

The Seasiders had a let off when a Frome back gathered up a loose ball directly beneath the home posts and shipped it out only for the recipient to knock on with the try line beckoning.

Weymouth had a late rally well inside injury time and following a line out won a penalty just five meters shy of the Frome line, they elected to whip the ball out to prop Tim Comben who despite a shove from most of the Seasiders forwards, Comben was shunted into touch for Mr Wynn to signal the end of the contest with a blast on his whistle and also any hope Weymouth had of promotion.
