Your News Seghill U12 have mixed weekend

Seghill under 12's have had a great season leading up to the County Cup Finals, which were held on the 16th March 2008 at Druids park.

With victories over several of the big clubs along the way to the finals, they had high hopes of a successful day, but it was not to be their day.

They opened up with a match against Alnwick, who they had previously beaten 21 - 0, but this time, suffered a 14-0 defeat. Next up was Ponteland, who again they previously beat 7- 0 when they played them in a three team tournament at Tynedale. But this time it was Ponteland who recorded a 7-0 win.

Things picked up in the third game when Seghill recorded another memorable victory over Tynedale, 14 - 0, with a run away try by William Ramsey and another by the Captain Callum Burgess.

The last game saw Seghill up against an excellent Morpeth side, and though Seghill did hold them in the second half, they still when down by 21 points to 0.

Coaches John Hall and David Warner were shelled shocked and firmly believed their youngsters had the talent and determination to reach the final. However, it was said in the pre-match discussion that they were already winners because of the excellent season they have to date, but things could have been so much better had they rounded of the season as Cup Winners

Unfortunately, on the big day, the team did not gel on the pitch and didn't produce the rugby they are capable of. Overall there was some excellent individual play by several members of the team but there did seem to be a lack luster approach on the day.

Still, the boys are looking forward to a special training session this Thursday at their home ground at Welfare Park, Seghill and will be viewing some footage of their recent play, getting clued up on the rules with a quiz, and having food and fun to finish off the evening. Lets look forwards to a new season and even greater success on the pitch.
