Your News Fund raising for cancer research at Yatton RFC

Yatton Rugby Clubs 1st XV are currently playing in South West 2 West League and are playing at a the highest level of rugby in their history. A village club playing against the towns of Taunton, Brixham, Torquay, St Ives etc. A small club maybe but with a big heart.

They are, a small club, which is still completely amateur on the field and run entirely by volunteers. For the last few years they have adopted a charity for the season. This year they have adopted Cancer Research Uk, Breast Aware. The Club always tries to adopt a charity with special meaning to them. Last year when Yatton played at Torquay Athletic early in the year there was a fundraiser at Torquay in support of their Captain's wife who was terminally ill with cancer.

Yatton provided a shirt for their auction, which made 50 . Yatton Chairman Chris Mason had to buy it back for 60 so that Yatton boys had a full kit for the following week !

Sadly the Torquay Captains wife died in the summer.

Yatton elected to pay respect to this brave lady, who left 5 children, the youngest being 2, by holding a Yatton in the Pink Day when Torquay played at the village on Valentine's Day this year. Torquay donated a shirt for the auction and a cheque for the cause.

The Club raised 916 on that day bringing their total funds raised for charity over the last four years to 7416. The charities adopted being Motor Neuron Disease, Sands, The Children's Hospice South West and Cancer Research Uk.

On Wednesday of last week the Club hosted the Yatton Cancer Research Group when they held their first Ladies Luncheon, with speaker Susan Marshfield. This Ladies who lunch affair helped raise a further 800.
