Phoenix entertained table topping West Park leads and despite what the scoreline suggests they were in this game (and indeed led) up to the hour mark only to suffer the carding of Conway and capitulate to the fire power of the visitors handy backs.

The story of the first half was such that the early exchanges were equally shared with the visitors backs keen to spin the ball through the hands and knocking on with passes that were rifled to them at pace to say the least.

However the Phoenix pack matched and pushed their bigger counterparts and it was a Stuart penalty that saw the home side take the early lead.

Phoenix then extended their lead when fly half Elliot up early on the backs charged down the attacking kick and proceeding to chase the ball thirty yards up the pitch,c ollect and go under the posts with Stuart converting.

West Park reduced the deficit coutesy of an overlap on the blind allowing their sppedy wing to take advantage of the space and charge over 10-7.

For the rest of the half Phoenix maintained the pressure with the pack getting on top with the oppostion frustrated tripped scrum half Elliot at the scrum and recieved a yellow card for his petulance. Phoenix capitlaised on the reduced numbers with Burton collecting on the right wing and going over in the corner.

On the turn round the visitors reduced the deficit with a converted try to make it 15-14 and then Stuart knocked over a penalty for a 18-14 advantage which was to prove the last home points of the day.

Then disaster West Leeds broke through and their attacker knocked the ball on at least twice which somehow the referee failed to see, the newly introduced conway pounced on the ball and was amazed to be carded and allow the penalty kick to be taken.
