Your News Millwall U13 29 - Southwark Tigers 19

Millwall Lions U13s put in another impressive showing in just their third match, with a close fought 29-19 defeat to the Southwark Tigers at Millwall Park on Sunday.

The home side were buoyed by two tries from fullback Jacob Lajolie and some strong kicking from centre Shaun Mulholland, who kicked 2 from 3 conversions. However the Tigers proved too strong in defence for the Millwall youngsters.

coach Chris Davis said the team had improved despite the defeat: "Our attack was more structured this week and we used our strengths fairly well,"

"But we'll need to work on our tackling technique and commitment in the rucks in order to turn this progress into victories"

The match started very one-sided, with Southwark jumping out to a 10-0 lead early on before Lajolie sprinted from try line to try line virtually un-touched to put the home side on the score sheet.

From there the lead was tossed from side to side as both teams struggled to gain the accendency.

After letting in a further two tries, Millwall struck again, with Bobbie Cruise making a strong run up the middle of the field to touch down under the posts.

Lajolie struck again after gathering up a loose ball midfield and the homeside looked to steal victory, but Southwark hit back with their own long range try to cushion their lead.

Lajolie almost bagged a hat-trick after pacing 65 metres up the touchline before being bundled into touch inches from the try line by a great cover tackle from the Southwark fullback.

Coach Davis warned that training would get tougher for the Millwall

youngsters: "They know what they need to do now, so we'll have to step up the intensity in training from now on,"

"With matches against Essex big guns Burnham, Thurrock and Braintree on the horizon, things will only get tougher, so we'll need to be prepared".

Meanwhile Millwall U15s travelled down the road to East London and were handed a 43-0 thrashing for their efforts.
