Your News St Marys OB 15 - Yatton 10

St Marys were fortunate to avoid Yatton doing the double on them this season or, at least, to avoid a draw. But the early season score line was effectively reversed when the home sides deciding try came in the dying seconds of second half protracted injury time.

Setting the scrums were often a struggle right from the start and the two basement sides swopped penalty conversions during the first 15 minutes.

Around the fringes activity took place and the remainder of the half was a stop start affair with long injury breaks both to the frustration of supporters as well as players, including the mid field demonstration of how to strap up an ankle after having removed boot and sock. After 50 minutes the pedestrian game finished its first half.

Interval instructions to the visitors were to good effect as they won the ball back straight from the kick-off and an immediate lineout catch and drive developed into a series of rucks, with Will Roach finishing off to give Tony Hill an easy conversion. Putting Yatton at 10-3.

For the next 20 minutes St Marys tried to up their game but Yattons open play pressure and their own wayward passing gave no results. They were helped when a touchline tackle by Yatton on a speeding winger sparked off players to dive in and the tackle was adjudged to have been high and a yellow card issued. Minutes later the spark fired off again and resulted in a player from each side being shown the exit.

Yattons then leaderless resistance was hard work and at 80 minutes of normal time St Marys pounced on an error and cut around the back for their try and conversion.

At the end of a frequently interrupted 10 minutes of injury time the home sides luck trying fly half broke through to touchdown in the corner and clinch the win on the final whistle.

This Saturday Yattons 1stXV travel to catch up their league fixture against Paignton. 01934-838780 for travel details.

2nds are scheduled in a friendly at Old Reds but the 3rds are at home in a league match against Midsomer (Murder) Norton.
