Millwall 103 - Loughton 0

MILLWALL Rugby Club recorded their best win of the season on Saturday (January 24) with a huge win over rivals Loughton.

With the prospect of promotion to Essex Division One within sight the Isle of Dogs team obliterated their opponents with a powerful home victory - racking up 100 points in a match for the first time this term.

Millwall centre Tan Parsons said after the match: "We were expecting this to be a lot closer because Loughton have had some good results in recent weeks. But today they just didn't have much of an answer and we were ruthless enough to keep the pressure on and keep scoring tries until the final whistle.

"It seemed as though our backs scored pretty much every time they got the ball - but we have to try and enjoy this because it's not often you get scores like this. The main thing in a game as one-sided as this is not to concede, and we managed that with aplomb. We know we will have a much harsher test when we continue our campaign in the Essex Presidents Shield next month against Maldon."

During Saturday's victory Millwall wingers Dan Lawrence and Naz Mohammed scored four tries apiece and hulking centre James Reilly also bagged a hat-trick.

From the outset the Millwall pack set the pace in the set pieces, winning several scrums against the head and stealing a number of Loughton's lineouts. After the visitors' fly half left the field with a shin injury midway during the first half their attacking ambitions deserted them and Millwall exploited the lumbering, ponderous Loughton defenders to score try after unanswered try.

This Saturday (January 31) Millwall take on Old Cooperians, who lie in second place behind Millwall in Essex Division 2.

"We want to win this league without losing and we will be looking to deal firmly with Old Coops this weekend," added Parsons.
