Your News Wimborne 2XV 13 - Weymouth 22

WEYMOUTH maintained their position at the summit of Dorset & Wilts One South but had to work hard to fend off rock-bottom Wimborne Seconds.

The Seasiders travelled to lowly Wim-borne, who have won just once in the league this season, knowing that anything less than victory would put a dent in their title and promotion hopes.

And although they conceded double figures against the leagues lowest scorers, Weymouth went nine better to secure a valuable two points.

Josh Docherty, captain Tony Worle and winger Dan Cree all crossed the Wimborne whitewash while Dave Allan kicked two conversions and a penalty to make up the away sides tally.

Coach Paul Harding said: It was a physical battle and far from an easy game. Wimborne certainly looked stronger than when we played them last.

Were still top and weve just got to keep doing the day to day work. The boys are training hard and the results are coming because of that work.

The win was made all the more important as nearest rivals Bridport, who are just a point behind the Seasiders, thumped Frome Seconds 70-0.

Worles men host Salisbury Seconds on Saturday in their next outing.

* Third-placed Dorchester were without a Dorset & Wilts One South fixture and enjoyed a 15-10 friendly victory over Ivel Barbarians instead while Puddletown suffered a 39-0 league defeat at the hands of Swanage & Wareham Seconds.
