Your News Yarnbury Seniors lose out to the weather but juniors get some game time

All the senior sides games were cancelled due to the severe frost.Unfortunately for the first team who had theor strongest side available of the whole season so far with talisman Ian Moule back at No 8 giving some solidity to the forwards.Next week is a break from League Rugby with a Yorkshire Shield game at Pocklington. However the weather changed on Sunday and several games were possible.

Yarnbury formed their colts late this season but are getting stronger each week with the coaching of Peter Olney and supported by Martin Bourne and Nick Mercer.

Yarnbury took the lead with a penalty from stand off Andy Mountain and gave a very good account of themselves ,particularly in the first half with No8 and Captain Jack Butler prominent and second Row Connor providing some bulk in the forwards.Robert Mercer had his best game so far at tight head prop.

Two tries were surrendered in each half but the team finished strongly without further reward.Up next Sunday are Hull but the enthusiastic boys of Horsforth will be up for the challenge.

Yorkshire Cup Quarter Final

Yarnbury Under 15's 5 Hull Ionians 26

Yarnbury succumbed to the stronger Hull Ionians Team but scored a superb try created by centre Mark Hodgson and then superb interplay between prop Cameron Morton and hooker Chris Doyle with the prop crashing over for the try of the match.

Unfortunately the Ionians backs were too strong and powerful in the breakaways and scored four tries.Yarnbury under 15's are made of strong stuff and are well organised by Paul Aldridge and the coaching staff and will come again this season.

Yarnbury Under 11's 7 York Under 11's 28

Another Yorkshire Cup quaret Final saw Yarnbury go down to a better passing side on the day that made fewer mistakes. However, this is not a critisism of the Yarnbury Side who are having a superb season amongst the bigger senior sides in Yorkshire and can mix it with the best on their day ably coached by Paul Marshall.

Winger Chris Bowen got Yarnbury's try.The front five in the scrum deserve praise for their efforts led by Ross Kirkland
