Bishop Auckland RUFC 36 v Whitby 0.

Bishop Auckland treated their regular supporters to a display of committed, exciting rugby at West Mills last Saturday that left their visitors from Whitby floundering in the face of incessant pressure. Bishop opened the scoring with a Matt Fitch try two minutes into the game and from then on they dominated proceedings with some rugged rucking from their forwards and a back division ready to run the ball at every opportunity. The back row of Gallone, Edwards and Halladay put in an immense amount of work, while centre Gilbert's growing confidence brought a much needed injection of pace. Yet, in spite of their control, it was close to half time before they scored again. The forwards drove over the Whitby line and Gallone touched down.

The second half saw a much more determined approach to turning possession into points. Mike Halliday capped some abrasive running with a fine individual try and Gareth Edwards provided classic flanker support to score under the posts. Fitch and Gallone both added to their earlier scores, thus emphasising the forwards' contribution of five tries out of six. With Durham and Northumberland Division 3 rapidly turning into a four horse race, but with only two promotion places available, points scored is going to become a crucial issue and Bishop are not scoring enough.
