Your News Weymouth 46 - North Dorset A 12

A good performance and a good result said the Seasiders head coach Barry Ross Mackenzie after the final whistle had sounded: We stuck to our game plan and but for a 10 minute spell just before the break when we shipped two tries we controlled the proceedings.

A couple of errors, one miss communication followed by a poor tackle cost us 12 points, but it would be unfair to dwell on those two incidents when overall we have played so well.

Centre Andy Wood crossed very early in the game for Weymouth closely followed by left wing Iain MacConnachie with a try and scrum half Craig Bartlett landing the conversion.

The visitors fought back with flanker Ben Stone punishing Weymouth for a missed tackle to cross in the corner.

A loose pass wide out on the Seasiders left was gathered in by winger Tom East who sprinted in unopposed to score beneath the home posts with Scott Beasley adding the extras.

The scores tied at 12 points each the visitors threatened again, but strong defence from Weymouth kept them out and when MacConnachie crossed twice in quick succession to complete a first half hat trick of touchdowns the writing was on the wall for men from North Dorset.

After the restart he visitors struggled to keep up with the home forwards power play and with Weymouth monopolising possession a burst of pace from fly half Tony Cowburn saw him run clear of the visitors defence to ground the ball under the posts for Bartlett to convert.

Open side flanker George Carter was next to touchdown for Weymouth then another Weymouth youngster, winger Jos Docherty staked his claim in the first team squad with a well taken try converted by Bartlett.

Bartlett himself this time showed a clean pair of heels to the North Dorset defenders and downed the ball in the corner to complete the scoring and end the game.

This result keeps Weymouth in contention for promotion as the season reaches its half way stage.
