Your News Kesteven 10 - Boston 10 (including details of 2nd and 3rd XV)

Kesteven celebrated their annual reunion of old members with the visit of Boston. This was the 3rd meeting of the sides and Kesteven were intent on setting the record straight.

The previous meeting last week saw Kesteven lose two of their more influential players, Ian Charles and Rob Cooper, to serious injury. This allowed Will Price and Tom Price to return to the side. A late call off by Tom Harron brought Jon Korcz into the second row.

A strong cross wind was going to make play difficult and indeed both sides struggled to set a patern. Kesteven were setting the pace however with Dom Brister and Andy Peabody particulary prominent. A fine break from midfield by Brister took play deep into the Boston half but a slight knock on stopped the move. Peabody was then in the action coming close to scoring. He passed on to Parker who was topped a metre short. From the resulting scrum the ball was worked out to Brister who stormed over for the try. Tom Price added the conversion and Kesteven finnished teh half 7 - 0 ahead.

In the second half Boston started well and scored after 5 minutes. Their young backs broke away after a Kesteven attack broke down and neat inter passing led to a try which was converted to tie the scores. Kesteven fought back and were rewarded with a penalty by Tom Price. A second attempt from the same player dropped short and Boston chose to run the ball back. They forced Kesteven to concede penalties and levelled the score again with a successful kick.

The match remained tight and Kesteven who freshened up their side with substitutions of Paton for Smith and Bennett for Richard Dolan and John Hall for Will Price, continued their efforts to win the game. The Boston defence held firm however and the draw was a fair result. The point gained by the home side was welcome in the fight to get clear of the relegation zone.

Kesteven were well served by Brister, Parker and Turner in the backs. All three used the wind to good effect with their kicking. In the pack Andy Peabody led the side well Tyrone Miles showed some strength in the back row and Jon Korcz was dominant in the line out as well as strong in the loose. He is a great prospect and justly won man of the match.

Team was Tom Price; Ian McAllister, Mark Dent, Dom Brister, Will Price; Martyn Parker, Dan Turner; Paul Shields, Pete Dolan, Tony Smith, Jon Korcz, Nick Clarke, Richard Dolan, Andy Peabody, Tyrone Miles - Replacements John Hall, Marc Paton, Paul Bennett.

Kesteven II XV 59 – Boston Development 0

Boston development travelled to Woodnook as part of a double header for Kesteven’s 60th Anniversary, on a typically windy Saturday.

Boston won the toss and decided to play the 1st half with the wind. Kesteven very quickly started to dominate the game, spending 10 minutes in the Boston 22. They came away with a try when Mark Sayle senior dropped over the line to score as the result of powerful rucking by the dominant Kesteven forwards. Kesteven then went on to further dominate the game with a display that continued to delight. A further 5 tries were scored before half time.

The second half bought a number of changes, 2 forced by injuries to Mat Clarke and Jordan Hughes. Again Kesteven dominated in all areas of the game, running in 6 tries before the end of the game. Two tries were converted in very windy conditions by Matt Harland. Donkey of the week award goes to Pete Mount for his attempted conversion under the posts which went sideways.

Captain Andrew Dowling was pleased with the overall performance, the team showing concentration over 80 minutes, and displaying a ruthless streak which killed the game off for the visitors very quickly after half time.
