WARMINSTER 10 WEYMOUTH 44

WEYMOUTH moved to within a point of leaders Dorchester after a resounding win at promotion rivals Warminster.

The Seasiders inflicted Warmin-ster’s biggest defeat of the Dorset & Wilts One South season so far while recording their second largest victory at the same time.

However, skipper Tony Worle was not totally impressed with his side’s display.

He said: “It was a good win but we didn’t play particularly well to be fair.

“The backs were good, as were James Brindley and Chris Hurrell who made their first starts, and the chances we forwards gave them they took very well, but it took us 20 minutes to get our act together.

“We were 10-0 down after 10 minutes but then we started to dominate in the forwards and I thought Warminster were one of the poorer sides that we’ve played this season because if we had played the way we did against Bridport or Dorchester then we might not have won.”

Adam Hoxey ran in two tries for Weymouth whose other scores came via Craig Barter, James Borrington, Anthony Cowburn, Andy Wood, Adam Poole, Worle and two conversions from Dave Allan.

Coupled with Dorchester’s 18-15 loss at Swanage & Wareham Seconds, Weymouth are now only a point adrift of top spot.

Worle added: “Swanage & Wareham can be a strong side but they have not really hit form this season so that was a surprise result. It’s fantastic though that there’s us, Bridport and Dorchester all within two points each other, it will be a fun run-in that’s for sure.”
