Your News Kesteven 13 - Barton & District 0

Kesteven continued their good home run with a disciplined and controlled performance against league newcomers Barton and District.

It was a gey dreich day with the floodlights on from the start to combat the efects of the fog. The Barton pack were just on top in the early stages, helped by some fine kicking from their stand off but gradually Kesteven got into the game. There were few scoring opportunities and much play was the midfield.

Kesteven got the break about 10 minutes from half time. Danny Turner fielded a kick deep in his own half and immediately fed the ball to Dom Brister. The big centre quickly got into his stride and made a huge break up to the visitor's 22 where he found Chris Jinks following up at pace to take the scoring pass and stormin at the posts for the opening try. Turner added tthe conversion to make the half time score 7 - 0.

In the second half Kesteven got on top and could have added more tries - but the Barton defence held firm often at the expense of a penalty. Danny Turner continued his fine form with the boot by adding two successful kicks, one from 40 metre sout wide to give K's a winning margin of 13 - 0, this lifting them to seventh place in the league.

This was a fine display on a day not conducive to good rugby. The discipline was excellent and was a reward for good preparation in the week leading up to the game. The way they took control of the game in the final 20 minutes shows also thatthe fitness level is improving. There were fine displays from centres Jordan and Brister while Danny Turner linked well with scrumhalf Mark Dent.

In the pack Jinks fully deserved his man of the match award, not only for his try but for his general play. He was everywhere. Jon Korcz also had a good game and Doug Hayward continues to develop at hooker, while his mobility gives an added dimension in the loose.

Next week Kesteven travel to Oakham.

The Worksop v Kestteven 2nd team match was cancelled because the referee did not appear. .
