Your News Millwall U17 taught a lesson in Essex County Cup

MILLWALL Under 17s took on county champions Woodford in their first ever cup fixture on Sunday (November 30).

Although the Isle of Dogs boys eventually went down without crossing the opposition line, the side’s coaches have described it as a landmark.

Head coach Chris Davis said: “They were an extremely tough draw for our first ever cup game and we knew exactly what to expect. Our boys did extremely well to keep them from scoring for the first 15 minutes.

“It was tough but we’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons here today and you have to remember this is the only loss we’ve suffered in the last five games.”

Millwall kept their hosts restricted to three tries in the first half but in the second period the home team began to accelerate and turn up the heat on Millwall’s boys.

“I’m immensely proud of the lads,” added Davis. “Every tackle towards the end was a try saving tackle and their heads never went down. We have a home fixture next week and we will come out on to the pitch ready.”
