Towcestrians welcomed Aylestone St James to Greens Norton Road, for the first fixture between the sides for many years, with Tows notching a victory after following the pattern of the last three games, by starting very well and eventually just doing enough to secure the win.

From the first whistle, Tows romped into Aylestone St James and forced the visitors into deep defence. This onslaught from Tows continued for 15 minutes and during this time the home side had carved through the ‘Jimmies’ defence with Matt Bodily scoring 2 tries, aided by Matt Yuill who scored a try and made two conversions. Then, at this point, Tows just lost focus and sat back on their lead allowing the Leicester side to get back into the game with a converted and an easy penalty. However, Tows rallied towards the end of the half for winger Richard Carter to score a try in the corner and the conversion from Yuill saw the home side into half time 16Pts to 10Pts ahead.

In the second half, all the early pressure came from Tows until a dropped pass in the Jimmies 22 was hacked on by a defender, and neatly collected to hand to see the visitors score a converted try under the posts. Whilst acknowledging the endeavour of the visitors, Towcestrians really made hard work of this game, and continually allowed themselves to become tied into a forward confrontation with the bigger ‘Jimmies’ pack. Frustrated, by committing unforced errors when they could have made the game safe, Towcestrians full back, Yuill, eventually put the game beyond Aylestone St James, by slotting a couple of penalties to save Tows blushes.

Next week Towcestrians continue on League duties away at Lutterworth RFC. Kick Off 2.15pm.

Tows travelled to Kettering short of two players and greatful thanks to Ketts, who were able to loan 2 players. After being 8Pts down at half time, the home side then let loose and the pressure told with Ketts running out easy winners.
