DEC

It was over twenty years ago since Swanage & Wareham last entertained Trowbridge at Bestwall, but it was not a good day for the visitors, as Swans put on one of their better all round displays of the season, they went down by five tries and two penalty goal to a consolation converted try.

It was from Swans first attack that the home side took the lead, with a chip over the heads of the defenders with scrum half Jason Davis touching down. Phil Graves added the conversion. Both sides missed with penalty goal attempts in the first twenty minutes, but on twenty five minutes a line out resulted in the ball being moved to winger Charlie Rowberry who cut inside the defence to score a converted try close to the posts.(14 – 0). Swans continued to dominate the play, with the opposition rarely venturing into Swans 22 metre line. Phil Graves added a penalty goal five minutes before the interval (17 – 0), and just before the break, Swans pushed a 5 metre scrum backwards towards the Trowbridge line, and flank forward Dafydd Wright was on hand to score out wide. 22 – 0 at half time.

Swans continued to have the best of the play early in the second half, as the rain came down making the ball hard to handle. A neat move by Swans three-quarters moved the ball once again to Charlie Rowberry who went in for his second try in the corner. (27 – 0). Close to the hour mark Trowbridge had their best spell of the game putting Swans defence under pressure. The visitors prop forward Karyl Perry was much in evidence as he forced his way over the Swans’ try line. Ashly Chalf added the extras ( 27 – 7). With twelve minutes to go Phil Graves added another penalty goal for Swans, and with two minutes left Swans no. 8 Aaron Lewis capped an outstanding game by him, scoring from a scrummage as Swans powered over the Trowbridge line.
