England Sporting Chance Women booked their place in the semi-finals of the Dubai Rugby Exiles 7s on Friday with wins over the Wooden Spoon and the Pink Baa Baas.

The England side rounded up their pool matches with a 19-0 victory over the Wooden Spoon team thanks to a brace of tries from England captain and Wasps player Sue Day. Club and country teammate Heather Fisher also added a try and Richmond's Alice Richardson added two conversions.

The England Sporting Chance Foundation side then met the Pink Baa Baas in the quarter-finals and stepped up the pace to record a 38-0 victory, and thereby booking their place in the tournament's final four. Tries from Day, Wasps' Michaela Staniford, Lichfield's Sarah Beale (2), Blaydon's Danielle Waterman and Richmond's Vicky Massarella secured the win. Saracens' Charlotte Barras also added four conversions.

England Head Coach Simon Amor said: "This has been another good day for the squad and we are delighted to be in the semi-finals, where we are likely to face Canada.

"It has been a really hot day, so the players have faced a big challenge, but they defended brilliantly against a tough Wooden Spoon side, and in our game against the Pink Baa Baas they were ruthless in their attack and took every opportunity they had.

"Now we have got the semi-finals and hopefully the final on Saturday. If we draw Canada in the semis it will be a tough game. They are very fit, and physically big but we are looking forward to taking on an international side who we could face in the iRB Rugby World Cup 7s in March."
