Your News Metropolitan Police Vets XV 25 - Deepings Vets 17

The Metropolitan police vets hosted a Deeping Vets team at Imber Court, Surrey. A large squad of players and supporters travelled to southwest London to experience the first class floodlit facilities at the police sports ground, regularly used by international teams.

The game started at a fast pace, with the powerful Deepings forwards taking the Met on up front. However, the police managed to score a try against the flow of play from a loose scrum. Deeping continued to have most of the possession but the speedy Met backs scored three further tries. The Deepings forwards made powerful bursts through some weak tacking to set up a try under the posts. At the break it was 20-5 to the Met.

Deepings dominated the 2nd half and their forwards set up two good tries from rucks on the Met line. It looked like Deeping would take the lead but the Met managed another score again from their wings and eventually held on to win 25-17.

Deeping Captain Martin Elmer said "This was a wonderful hard fought game, played in great spirit, a brilliant success. The Met police were excellent hosts .We now look forward to the next battle next year and win back the trophy
