Your News Peterborough Ladies 19 - Deepings Ladies 15

Each outing between the Devils and Peterborough Ladies is always billed as the ‘CLASH OF THE TITANS’ and today’s game was no different. Each with a side of 15, the Devils did not want a repeat of their last game against Peterborough

From the toss the Devils were to receive the first ball and immediately piled on the pressure, scoring their first try within minutes. A short while later Deepings were back in the ‘Boro half, a lineout just outside the 5m line and Peterborough giving away a penalty forced a scrum which produced a dummy pass by captain Monique Nolan resulting in her scoring the 2nd try for the Devils. This was promptly converted by Gemma.

Peterborough responded immediately by pushing forward and scoring their first try. Peterborough continued the pressure but strong kicking from Gemma Hempstead and several superb tackles from the forward Rachel Cox kept the Devils in a strong position when they went into half time with a 12 – 5 lead.

From the start of the second half to the end of the game it was very evenly matched with each side trying to prove to the other that they were the most dominant of the local teams. Pressure was immediately applied from the off by Peterborough Ladies and scored their 2nd try which was not converted.

With only about 8 minutes left to go the Devils were maintaining the pressure and allowed Sadie Sharman to score the 3rd try for the Devils following a brilliant run from within their own 22. Again, converted by Gemma Hempstead. However, not to be outdone, even at this late stage of the game, Peterborough responded immediately, catching the Devils out and scoring their 3rd try. With the score now at 15 – 19 and their conversion still to be attempted it was proving to be a superb game. The Devils and all their supporters breathed a sigh of relief when the attempt at the conversion that looked sure to go over, hit the crossbar!

A brilliant game to watch and well done to both teams. It was undoubtedly the best game of the season both teams played good rugby. Commiserations to Peterborough Ladies, but well, it was our turn to win!

The Devils are very a strong team in numbers, very friendly and would always welcome any new ladies who would like to play the game. If you are aged 14 – 60 please visit the club website at for more information.
