Southwold Swallows 32, Chelmsford Ladies 5

THIS was an historic result as it put Southwold on top of the league for the first time in their brief 10-year history.

A postponed fixture between Harlow and Peterborough and this comfortable victory over league newcomers Chelmsford combined to see Southwold top of RFUW South East Division Three.

Chelmsford found their visit to Southwold Common a tough assignment. Sharon Larter and Laura Nutt returned to the front row and with Sarah Doddington they set the pattern for the afternoon dominating their opposite numbers.

Add to this the physical dynamism off Laura Marjoram, Bev Whyte, Clare Phelps, Michaela Scarle and Karen Fletcher and Chelmsford were blown away by this Southwold pack that certainly delivers.

However, Chemlmsford never gave up and their backs were difficult to break down and indeed concocted a try of their own to make it 10-5 at half-time.

But four unanswered tries in the second half bagged the points for the Swallows. Captain Elissa Cox got two tries from scrum-half whilst others to score were Bev Whyte, Clare Phelps, Kim Roberts and Michael Scarle and Amy Gregory added the conversion.
