Your News North East University League beats the weather

Despite the arctic conditions, we managed four out of five games yesterday. Well done! At Cochrane Park our two League leaders were in action, but in separate games this time. Brumbies kept their top position with a good win over determined opposition from Stockton Colleges and, on the next pitch, Durham Development were doing a similar job to hosts, Crusaders. Reports from Durham speak of even colder, windier conditions but, nevertheless, two enjoyable games with Grey College getting the better of neighbours, Collingwood, in a closely contested match and St Cuthbert’s finally overcoming visitors, Medicals, with four tries to none after having raced into a 17-0 lead in the first half. Unfortunately our last game was called off when St Hild/Bede went en masse to Twickenham! This left hosts, Northumbria, without a game once again after last week’s unfortunate sequence of events. It seems that they are always the ones to suffer and now have three games to catch up. I hope the weather holds! This Saturday sees four scheduled games and, hopefully, a full set of results. Wherever you play, enjoy the day and your rugby. Regards, Malcolm
