Your News Year 10's produce fine display

The Year 10's travelled to St. Bernards to play their third game of the season. After suffering two heavy defeats in their first two fixtures confidence was at an all time low for the away side. This wasn't helped by the fact that five of the first team were not available for selection.

Only thirteen players travelled to St. Bernards and many haven't had a great deal of experience playing the game before so the odds were stacked against them. Jake Forbes and Liam John had to step up to the front row and Josh Tabti filled in at second row in a patched up pack. The forwards were to go on and produce the best display ever seen by a Sir William Ramsay team by coach Mr. Connaughton.

The backs were also thrown together with Courtney Edwards, Trae Gould, Jordan Burnard, Travis Henry, and Harrison Lewis playing only their third game of rugby.

The forwards got on top early and won ball after ball at the ruck area and scrums and this early pressure told as Ramsay gained some good field position. Ryan Cole and team captain Ed Hucker put in some huge hits in the middle of the field helping take control of the game. The first break of the game came from the away side as Henry and John linked up with Gould to send Edwards racing down the touchline. Edwards gained some good field position for his team before he was tackled into touch, sliding on the slippery surface.

The home side took the lead with a good strong run through the middle of the field but the conversion was missed so the score stood at 5 - 0. Ramsay responded straight away with a good kick down field by Burnard who chased down his own kick and made a huge tackle with Gould deep into St. Bernards half. The forwards then dominated again and turned the ball over, giving Gould the opportunity to touch down in the corner. Edwards missed the conversion so the scores were tied at 5 - 5.

The second half began with both teams running strong and putting in some big hits. As the ball was kicked from a restart, man of the match Gould chased the ball down and produced the tackle of the game. This gave Ramsay some good field position again and led to some strong running from Henry and Edwards. The game did eventually swing the way of the home side who scored two tries in the final 5 minutes but the score somehow seemed irrelevant as the effort the thirteen man Ramsay team put in was a pleasure to watch. Jake Forbes put in an impressive display at prop and won some valuable ball at the lineouts. Everyone who represented Ramsay worked and fought for each other on the field and there was a good feeling after the game. Everyone seems to be looking forward to the next fixture which can only be a good thing.
