Your News Old Newtonians 18 - Towcestrians 18

Honours were shared in this game, which started with Towcestrians in control, but finished with them scrambling to save the game.

In the early minutes, Matt Bodily was clear to score, only to be called back for a dubious forward pass. Yet, from the next move Matt Yuill got clear of the Old Newtonians defence to score and convert his own try. A further penalty from Yuill put Tows 10pts up and they were looking good to build and emulated the kind of success from the previous week. How wrong. Newly promoted Old Newtonians gradually got themselves into the game when their winger scored a well taken try and a penalty from their No10 evened things a little. However, Old Newts were floored when Matt Yuill ended the half with dropped goal from inside his own half to put Tows in a more comfortable position.

At the start of the 2nd half, Old Newts fly half Matt Jelly, kicked a penalty to see the game poised at 11Pts to 13Pts. Then, in stark contrast to last weeks performance, Tows became strangely disjointed and lose focus, when an Old Newts throw-in was taken on the burst to score the softest of tries which was converted by Jelly. In response Towcestrians upped the tempo throwing everything at the home side. Old Newtonians were stout in defence to keep Tows at bay, but were unable to regain possession to clear their lines. Finally, in the last move of the game, to the relief of the Tows supporters Chrissy George eventually broke through to score a try and level the scores only to see Matt Yuill just fail with a brave conversion attempt, ands leave the final score-line at 18Pts apiece.

Next week Towcestrians are again on League duties at HOME against Leicester Vipers RFC 1st XV. Kick Off 2.30pm.
