Your News Pershore 12 - Bedworth 5

Pershore won a crucial game at Piddle Park on Saturday when they overcame Bedworth. Pershore now lie fourth in the league, only a point behind the leaders with a game in hand.

The conditions on Saturday prevented Pershore from playing the expansive game they have been used to over recent weeks. It was an attritional forwards battle from the start, with both packs trying to set their markers. It was certainly the home forwards who made the biggest impact. They dominated the scrum and lineout but mistakes enabled Bedworth to compete. The first half was dominated by the home side, but the visitors were the only team to score, their winger pouncing on a speculative kick ahead to give them a 5-0 lead.

The Piddle Park outfit continued there dominance in the second half but errors allowed Bedworth to stay ahead. Heading into the last quarter of the game Pershore finally opened there account. Levin Widmer won a lineout on the left hand flank. Kris Bassett then made a break in the middle of the park. Once tackled Pershore attacked the blind side. Winger Marcus Whyte and Prop Karl Evans both making good headway. With the defence stretched it was Martin Hope who finally crossed the line under the posts, taking no less than three defenders with him. Fly-half Matt Cyphus added the conversion to give Pershore a slender 2 point lead. Bedworth should have got themselves back in front but missed 2 relatively easy penalty attempts. Pershore managed to close the game out in the final 10 minutes and after prolonged pressure scored again. Scrum half Adrian Hanson pouncing on the ball after a kick ahead giving Pershore a 12-5 victory.

Pershore have a tough test next week when they visit local rivals Upton in another top of the table clash.
