SSE National Two North leaders Stourbridge passed the 1,000 point mark for the season during their 53-0 rout of Westoe at Wood Terrace. Eight different players made it onto the scoresheet for the Saxons who remain five points clear of second-placed Hull Ionians at the top of the table. Their defeat and Dudley Kingswinford’s battling draw at home to home to Caldy confirmed Westoe’s relegation to National 3.

Victory for Hull Ionians over Darlington Mowden Park – albeit by the narrowest of margins – means the title race with continue into the penultimate weekend at least. Ionians led 17-15 at the break but the game swung DMP’s way immediately after the re-start when Grant Connon scored a try, which he converted himself to put the visitors in command. They remained in front until six minutes from time when Adam Thomas crossed the line to rescue the home side. Ionians won 32-31.

A hat-trick of tries from James Wigglesworth helped Hull to a 32-15 win over Sheffield tigers at Dore Moor. But Preston Grasshoppers wing Matthew Hughes went one better with a four-timer in his side’s 83-19 annihilation of Leicester Lions. Fellow wide man Adam Birchall also crossed twice, as did full-back Sean Taylor, as ‘Hoppers turned on the style at Lightfoot Green. Taylor converted nine of ‘Hoppers’ 13 tries for a personal tally of 28 points.

Luctonians were equally ruthless in dispatching Huddersfield at Lockwood Park. Centre Geraint Langdon was the star of the show in a 64-5 win for the Herefordshire outfit who also scored tries through Drew Cheshire (2), John Morris (2), Alexander Rumsey, Paul Hulland and George Thomas.

Wing Oliver Cicognini bagged a brace of tries in a 29-24 win for Otley at Birmingham & Solihull, while Stockport finished their home programme on a high note despite relegation with a 22-19 win over Bromsgrove at the Memorial Ground.

Dudley Kingswinford lived to fight another day in National Two North thanks to a two-try display from full-back Simon Fletcher and scores from Matthew Farrington and Jonothan Tideswell as they tied 26-all with Caldy.
