Your News Newquay U11 40 - Dursley U11 7

Newquay entertained touring side Dursley from Gloucestershire on Sunday at the Sports Centre. It's always nice to get a measure of yourself against teams outside of the local area and take on completely new opponents and this was no exception. Both teams started brightly, neither appearing jaded as we approach the tail end of the season. Early Newquay pressure paid off following some great running from Evie Longworth and Jack Higginson, Ben Hunt feeding a lovely weighted pass to Ethan Morgan who ran through to score. The Newquay backs kept Dursley at bay with some great tackling, particularly Ewan Gilroy-Simpson with his usual robust take downs. Ewan then added the second score going over on the left hand side after more good movement amongst the backs. It wasn't all one way in what was a physical game and Dursley forwards were proving themselves strong in both the ruck and scrum. However, a penalty awarded against them allowed Newquay to once more close their line, Arthur Bygrave showing good strength and determination to force his way over. Despite the three scores against them Dursley stuck to the task well and were rewarded when some good rucking saw their forwards finally manage to get past the Newquay defence. It wasn't to act as a platform for a revival however. Newquay continued to maintain control of the game, Ben Hunt scoring twice as the backs pace and forwards strength proved impossible for Dursley to contain. Ewan's outstanding work rate was rewarded as he also scored again to round of a Man of the Match performance.
