Your News South Woodham Ferrers 21 - Basildon 0

SWF travelled to local rivals Basildon, with confidence high

after some intensive midweek training. It was Basildon with the wind who started

the brighter and had Woodham on the back foot for the opening

10 mins, but could not break a well organised defence. SWF started

to dominate the scrums and with some good ball carrying by Paul Morgan

SWF began to take control. Brown's early penalty settled Woodham

and from some good driving play by the forwards the ball was released to

fly half Adam Brown, his deft kick was collected by Joe Dukelow. His long pass

found Warren Duggan out wide where he out paced his opposite number to

score. 8-0. A fired up home team returned to SWF half but their constant

indiscretions at the ruck area allowed Woodham to relieve the pressure.

From one such penalty a missed kick to touch was caught by the hard

chasing no7 Lee Guess. He offloaded to winger Duggan who scored his second

try of the day. A well struck penalty gave SWF a comfortable 16 point half time lead.

SWF began the second period with the elements in their favour and had Basildon

under constant pressure. However dropped balls and some close forward passes denied

any scoring oppotunities. These spurned chances lifted the home team and from

a number of quick tap penalties Basildon made inroads into Woodham's 22. Basildon

now had their best spell of the game but where repelled repeatedly on SWF try line

by some determined tackling. The visitors weathered this short storm and took control

of the game again. With time running out, Basildon started to run the ball from deep

and with some excellent tackling in midfield Woodham managed to turn over ball by

no6 Ryan Marshall. This allowed some quick passing by scrum half Murray to put

away captain Mclellan to score on his return to his previous club. Brown's conversion

was just wide. Final score 21-0.

SWF ladies kept their unbeaten run going. Well done girls!
