Swanage & Wareham welcomed fellow relegation participants to Bestwall last Saturday, in a game which was played in appalling weather conditions due to the incessant rain. The game could have been a decider for the wooden spoon in league Southwest 1 (East) but that will be decided in next weeks fixtures.

Swans were nearly on the scoreboard after seven minutes when a kick ahead had Swans winger Simon Landrum was denied a touch down in the corner. There were several mistakes by both sides as the ball in the conditions was difficult to control. After 25 minutes a kick down to the visitors 22 resulted in a knock on by the visitors, and from the resulting scrum, after several phases Swans fly half Jake Warren, worked his way over the try line to give him his first try for Swans 1st XV and Swans a 5 – 0 lead. High Wycombe had the advantage of the wind and for most of the first half and this kept Swans on the defensive. Five minutes after Swans scored a clearance kick on Swans line was charged down, and the visitors went in for a converted try. (5pts- 7pts). However five minutes from the interval a penalty was awarded to the hosts and Charlie Rowberry slotted it over to give Swans a half time lead of 8pts – 7 pts.

With the wind at their backs Swans piled on the pressure, and dominated much of the play in the second half, and after 55 minutes of play, a catch /drive off the top of a line out had second row Dan Collins powering his way over the line. Rowberry added the extras to give Swans a 13pts – 7pts lead. Another penalty from Rowberry in the 67th minutes put Swans further ahead. However a long kick down the field by High Wycombe had Swans struggling to cover, and the visitors added their second converted try bringing the score to 18pts – 14pts. In the last few minutes Swans were attacking again and should have added to their tally but the visitors held on.
