After a valiant display in the U11's Cup competition two weeks ago which saw them unluckily eliminated in the semi-Final on the first to score rule, Newquay returned home to the Sports Centre to entertain St Ives on Sunday. St Ives pressured the Hornets early on but when Newquay kicked back up field a fumble allowed Ethan Morgan to score in the left hand corner. St Ives rallied briefly but a sustained period of pressure from the Hornets saw Perran Heaman force his way over. Such was Newquay's dominance it was hard to see a way back for St Ives even now. Ewan Gilroy-Simpson made his customary strong run from defence at the restart and Ethan Morgan and Lewis Hollings both made good ground before the ball was recycled from a ruck and fed to the opposite wing where a pacey Finn Collins scored in the corner. Evie Longworth added another as the Hornets kept St Ives on the back foot. St Ives made the mistake of allowing Ewan to receive the kick at the restart twice more and were punished on both occasions. The first a slick passing move amongst the backs saw Ethan Morgan go in at the corner the second Ethan received the ball from Ewan and side stepped past two defenders before he raced away to score. St Ives briefly forced Newquay back to their own line but a scrum won by the Hornets saw Jack Higginson break down the wing and slip the ball to Ethan who raced away once again. The second half followed as similar vain to the first. The irrepressible Ben Hunt tackled a player, picked up the loose ball as it rolled free and brushed aside the defenders to go over. Ethan added another before Arthur Bygrave and Ben Hunt both showed good strength carrying the ball and as the Hornets forced the ball over the try line Jack Higginson grounded it for the score. Ben Hunt added a final try as the match drew to a close and a very satisfying win for the Hornets.
