Your News Newquay Hornets U11 56 - St Austell U11 21

Luckily the early morning rain had eased somewhat by the time the Hornets took to the field on the sloping pitch at St Austell on Sunday, but it still made for muddy, wet conditions. Newquay however didn't let the conditions slow them down and Arthur Bygrave made a good run from defence before the ball was fed out to Ben Henwood on the right wing. Still with a lot to do Ben left the Saints defence standing as he side stepped past two players before leaving the others trailing as he went over to put Newquay in front. The saints came back at them and a line out close to the Hornets line saw them win the ball and drive through to score. Moments later following another strong run through the middle from Arthur some good handling from the backs saw the ball fed wide and Sol Hawkins barged his way through the defensive line to edge Newquay back in front. The Saints came back at them once more and a penalty awarded deep in the Newquay half saw them go through to level the score. Some good rucking at the restart saw Newquay make good ground and when Ethan Morgan was fed the ball he jinked his way through to put Newquay back in front. Perran Heaman extended the lead further just before half time, taking the ball at a line out close to the St Austell line and forcing his way over. As the second half began the Saints needed to score early to keep in touch but Newquay started the brighter. As the Saints line was threatened they attempted to kick clear but the ball was charged down and Ben Hunt was on hand to pick up and go over. Newquay were firmly in command. Ethan Morgan added another to his tally before Evie Longworth joined in with an inspired run from scrum half. Picking it up from the scrum she saw a gap in the Saints defence, held onto the ball and streaked through the middle to score and seal a great performance. Sol Hawkins was to add yet another as Newquay dominated and although St Austell pulled one back in the closing minutes it couldn't detract from another great Hornets performance.
