Your News Hampton and Dulwich march on in Daily Mail RBS Cup competition

HAMPTONS first appearance in the quarter finals of the Daily Mail RBS Schools U18 Cup brought a fine 20-3 win away to Truro, sending the Middlesex school through to the last four.

Hampton are now one step away from the prestigious final at Twickenham Stadium, four miles from the school.

Harry Halls try in the corner after an 80-metre team movement gave Hampton the perfect start at Truro School, as the visitors sought a high tempo to counteract the physical size and strength of the opposition.

Fly half Tom MccGwire [sic] added a penalty before a tap-and-go try for scrum half Akira Takenaka and a half-lead of 13-3.

The final action of the second half saw Truro awarded a scrum 10 metres from their goalline but they failed to control the ball and Takenaka was quickest to respond for Hamptons third try, which MccGwire converted.

Truro had knocked out twice losing finalists RGS High Wycombe in the previous round.

Zoran Higgins, Director of Rugby at Hampton School, said: I am extremely pleased with the boys' performance and the tempo they managed to sustain throughout the game.

Hampton deserve a lot of credit for reaching this stage of the competition although mention must also go to the Truro players for their physical and spirited opposition and to the whole school for the very warm welcome they gave us.

We are really excited about the challenges that await us in the semi finals."

Cup holders Dulwich College beat Kings College School, Wimbledon 19-5 to set up a quarter final with Sherborne School on February 6.

In the Daily Mail RBS Schools U15 Cup, London Oratory won 54-12 against Maidstone Grammar School on the artificial pitch at Maidenhead RFC to earn a quarter final with QEGS, Wakefield.

St Pauls School, Barnes knocked Whitgift out, 24-19, and now face England full back Ben Fodens old school, Bishop Heber High School from Chester.

Famous as a founder member of the RFU in 1871, St Pauls were beaten finalists in the U15 Cup at Twickenham in 2005 and 2007.
